No one is quite sure what Sarah Palin is up to, but I love watching this story unfold. After three years of being completed pummeled by the main stream media for everything from her wardrobe and hair styles, to her children, pro-life stance and decision to resign as governor, Palin is turning the tables on them, and frankly, seems to be enjoying every minute of it.
While more and more GOP presidential hopefuls are declaring their candidacies, Palin has kept her intentions close to the vest. She recently made a comment about having a “fire in the belly” to run, but has not made any of the conventional trips to Iowa and New Hampshire, as most candidates are doing. The growing consensus is that she will not run, as she is still working for Fox News Channel, and many feel it wouldn’t make sense for her to give up the money she is making from speaking engagements, book tours, etc.
However, she has the media completely perplexed with her One Nation tour. While it appears to be a campaign tour, Palin insists that it is not, but is, in fact, a tour intended to educate and energize Americans about the nation’s founding principles and to promote the restoration of America and American values.
The best part of this story is the fact that Palin is not providing her schedule to the press, which has them in a complete frenzy, and has basically turned them into paparazzi. You can’t help but love the irony in this entire situation. They have been relentless in their efforts to destroy her, since she appeared on the national scene as McCain’s running mate. They have gone after her on a personal level that is unprecedented, even attacking her children, who are typically off-limits for all other politicians. And now, they have the nerve to be upset because she will not provide them with her schedule?? Seriously? Palin is a private citizen, and is not currently running for any office. She has absolutely no obligation to the media. She doesn’t owe them a thing, especially with the way they’ve treated her. Yet, they continue to whine and cry about it, and now have stooped to the level of actually chasing her bus around the country. I can’t help but find that hilarious.

Now, the lengths they are going to have taken on a whole new stench of desperation. Last week, MSNBC anchor, Martin Bashir, announced that Palin may be breaking federal law by displaying a flag on the side of her bus, in violation of the U.S. Flag Code. Are you kidding me? How did he even get through this segment with a straight face? First of all, the U.S. Flag Code is not a federal law. It’s voluntary, and really just a guideline. Secondly, it’s ok for liberals to burn the American flag, because that’s their right of freedom of speech, yet when Sarah Palin displays a flag on her bus, in a completely respectful way, she’s accused of violating federal law? Wow. That is an all new low. Is that seriously the best you can do?
But wait…it gets better. Earlier this week, CBS and other news agencies complained that Palin is endangering the media. Since Palin won’t tell them where she’s going, they have no choice but to follow her closely, causing a dangerous traffic situation. One reporter claims that Palin is not only ignoring the press, but intentionally misleading them. The reporter also said “she appears to be trying to show that she doesn’t need mainstream media outlets…to connect with the American people.” Ok, now that’s funny. Since when has the mainstream media been interested in helping her connect with the American people? They’ve done nothing but smear her from the first day she hit the national scene. Are these people completely delusional?
The media has repeatedly insisted that Sarah Palin can’t win the presidency and that she is irrelevant. So, why would they put so much effort into trashing someone who is irrelevant? Of all the declared and potential presidential candidates, she is attacked more than any other. There’s no other way to interpret this, than the fact that she is a threat to Obama. There’s no way around it. If someone has absolutely no chance of winning the nomination, the media would completely ignore them.
Now I know Sarah Palin isn’t for everybody. There are many Republicans that don’t care for her, including many of those in the GOP “elite”. But regardless of your personal opinion of her, there’s no denying that she’s a force to be reckoned with. She’s smart, successful, an unconventional campaigner, and she should not be underestimated. To quote Rush…”do not doubt me”.
