On Fox News Sunday, Chris Wallace referred to a comment made by Bill O’Reilly, who stated that Pawlenty is too nice and invisible in this race, calling him “vanilla”. When asked for a response, Pawlenty jokingly played the race card. Bad idea.
And this….is why O’Reilly called him vanilla. This was one of those times that I wanted to slink down in my seat in embarrassment for the guy. While it’s true that there are serious issues to deal with, and Pawlenty has to be himself, he really should have stayed away from the lame joke. It was painful to watch, and probably didn’t do him any favors.
I have to agree with O’Reilly’s assessment. Pawlenty just doesn’t have the charisma needed to get people’s attention. Americans can have a very short attention span, especially when it comes to politicians. We’ve heard it all before, and we’re looking for something new, and someone that will grab our attention and impress us. That’s why people like Sarah Palin. She’s interesting. Even people who don’t like her can’t wait to hear what she’s going to say next. Obviously, they watch for a different reason, but still….that fact remains the same. Pawlenty and Romney are both snoozers…let’s face it.
So, to quote Borat….”what’s up with it, Vanilla Face?” It’s time to step it up, or you’re O.U.T.
