It’s always heartbreaking to hear about the tragic death of a teen, but what’s just as tragic is when people use these incidents to stir up hate and division, or to further a political agenda. Sadly, this has happened in the Trayvon Martin case.
Trayvon, a 17 year old in Florida, was shot and killed by neighborhood watch captain, George Zimmerman. Although Zimmerman claimed to have shot Trayvon in self-defense, and the incident is still being investigated, media outlets were quick to pounce on the story, characterizing it as a racially motivated incident.
As usual, Al Sharpton, a “civil rights activist” (and I use the term loosely), was more than willing to jump headfirst into the fray, riling up crowds and demanding justice. Louis Farrakhan, a race baiter and hatemonger, also weighed in, making comments that have been interpreted as “veiled threats“.
Then along comes President Obama. Typically, former presidents have stayed away from commenting on these types of local issues. But not this president. He seems to be more than willing to comment on them, even without all of the facts in a case, if they’re potentially racially motivated. You will recall the 2009 incident between black Harvard professor, Henry Louis Gates and white police Sgt. James Crowley, and the “beer summit” that followed. Obama said the officer “acted stupidly“, when the president admittedly did not have all the facts.
While the shooting death of Trayvon Martin is still being investigated, Obama took questions about the incident, calling for “soul searching” and stating that all parents should understand why we should fully investigate the incident, adding “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon”.
While I agree that Trayvon’s death was horrible, why did Obama choose this particular incident in which to speak out? What about the white 13 year old who had gasoline poured on him, and was set on fire by black teens, while they yelled “you get what you deserve, white boy” ? Where is the outrage from President Obama and the mainstream media? In fact, the story has been suppressed by the media. What about the 11 year old boy who was shot in Chicago just days ago, while standing outside with his 7 year old brother and his friends? Where is the national media on that story? Where is Al Sharpton? Why isn’t he demanding justice for this crime? Is it because the shooter wasn’t white?
Is it more than a coincidence that Obama chose to speak out about this particular story? Was it for political gain? Was it an attempt to further divide us as a nation? You make the call.
Reblogged this on A Lot Of Coffee and Sleepless Nights.
He’s afraid he’s losing the black vote so I bet it’s for political gain to try to win back the black voters. I also think he’s racist – he’s been trying to divide this country since he became president.
I agree completely. He’s pandering.
For sure. He only speaks out on these issues when he thinks he has something to gain from them.
Yes, the “uniter” is the most divisive president in history.
Lots of questions in your post. No answers therein.
What, do you want us to do everything for you.
Come up with your own answers.
The questions I see are legitimate.
Contact the White House and ask them about the above post.
Good luck.
Also, you can ask them why Obama has hidden all of his records.
Beware though, you may be targeted as a terrorist.
walthe310 – the whole point is for you to decide for yourself. Why does Obama only speak out on issues that are considered racially motivated? He constantly emphasizes our differences instead of trying to bring Americans together…his campaign rhetoric was just that. Twenty years in a racist church and how else do you expect him to act?
RH, ….It appears you have snared a troll. 🙂
Obama wouldn’t do that. He only wants to bring us together as a nation. Yah, right!!
you hit the nail on the head with this one; it smells to high heaven of stinkly old politics!
No doubt about it.
There is more at stake here than just pandering, though. FL has gun laws that allow the use of deadly force ANYWHERE — not just your own property–if you feel threatened. This needs to be handled very carefully. We do not want to give the anti-gun lobby any more ammunition.
Good morning RH,
Obama should have stayed out of it. Just received this morning an email from a neighbor downstairs from me. Once she opens the email, she is going to kick herself I have no doubt because I gave her an earful.
There is now a petition being sent around demanding that Eric Holder and Florida AG, Pam Bondi get involved. When I read that, I truly lost it and gave her an earful stopping short of calling her a jackrabbit.
As shameful as it is, this is a distraction by Progressives that I can only pray backfires in their faces.
In the meantime, what is Obama doing while the whole country is fiercely debating the killing of Trayvon Martin. No doubt, he is pushing some draconian legislation through behind our backs.
We ALL should know this game by now.
